The town of Vík has always been a center for trade and tourism on the south coast of Iceland
Brydebúð has a long and rich history as the first permanent building erected on the Víkursandi beach.
The trading vessel Skaftfellingur is preserved in the Skaftfellingur museum, opposite Kötlusetur.
The Halldórsbúð store, built in 1903, was run by Hálldór Jónsson, farmer in Suður-Vík.
Kötlusetur is named after the Katla volcano, located beneath the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Her mood is being constantly monitored through seismographs
Vík has a lot of stories to tell! In 2015, Kötlusetur and VisitVík published an English-language coloring book, entitled simply Folk Stories of Vík.
